Faculty of Economics, Law and Humanitarian science (FELHS) is one of the major structural subdivision of Shakarim State University. Semey. The faculty carry out training process according to the educational programs of bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the following areas:

The faculty carry out the educational programs of bachelor’s, full-time and distance study. Distance education technology is used to graduates after secondary –special and higher education for all specialties.

The Faculty realises educational programs, in conjunction with the Modern Business Academy “NOVA” (Russia, Novosibirsk) and “Mancos” (South Africa, Durban):
1) Master of Business Administration (MBA);
2) Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA);
3) Certification Program “Recognition” Business Schools Regent- this recognition of national diplomas in foreign educational institutions.
For the development of relations with international universities and the participation of the teaching staff of the Faculty in exchanging programs in Co-operation with the University of Pittsburgh (USA), Dzhiongsangkim National University (South Korea), the University of Applied Arts named Kodolani (Hungary), University of Konya Nezhmettin Erbakan (Turkey) Pamukkale University (Turkey), Altai State Pedagogical Academy (Barnaul), Tomsk State University (Russia), University of Arts Mimar Sinan, Tuvan Institute of Humanitarian Studies (Rep.Tuva).

Scientists of foreign universities deliver lectures for the students of the faculty: Dr. Chung Lee (USA), Trevour Davies (England), Dina Amanzholova (Russia), Vladimir Lamin (RF), PhD Meriem Hakym (Turkey), PhD Nergiz Birai (Turkey) Lynette Hosek (USA). In the 2011-2012 academic year professors from North Dakota (USA), West Virginia, Texas and Marmara University (Istanbul, Turkey) were invited to deliver lectures and perform joint research projects.

Every year for the purpose of in-depth study of foreign languages teachers and students of the faculty are trained in Germany, USA and UK.

The material base of the faculty of ELHS meets modern requirements and standards. The faculty has an office of 1-C accounting laboratory “Prototype of tax office,” with the software Project Expert, specialized classroom for training international educational programs MBA and BBA (South Africa “Mancosa”). Classes of students studying “Journalism” are held in the TV studio which is equipped with the latest technical means. For the students majoring in “Psychology” is opened an office of “Self-knowledge”. The department of “Jurisprudence” is equipped with a courtroom and study of criminology. Modern computer technologies, e-learning software, multimedia, Internet resources are used in the educational process of the faculty. Students of the faculty are provided with places in modern hostel which meets the all requirements of the time. The faculty has considerable classroom fund, an assembly hall, a reading room, a library and a dining room.

Highly qualified specialists with considerable work experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience work in the faculty. Personnel potential of the faculty of ELHS is represented by doctors and Masters. The cadre is increased by teachers studying in doctorate and candidates for academic degrees and titles.

The educational process is organized in such a way as to orient future professionals to practice. In the context of developing innovative educational environment the faculty of Economics Law and Human Sciences uses interactive teaching methods, modern educational technologies, develops modular educational programs in the learning process. Faculty members are among the first implementers of distance learning technologies, thesaurus approach, essay, case teaching methods, problem-based learning. Business games, case studies, surveys, and synthesis, the implementation of projects and dissertations are held in educational process.

Research work. The faculty members are the developers of the project “Establishment of the Free Economic Zone in Semey” and are actively engaged in search and grant activities.

Government grants of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan are won to perform research on the following topics:

– “Historical and economic aspects of A. Bokeyhan’s works and his associates

“Members of Alash” in the development of the Kazakh economic science.”

– “Regional aspects of integration of the supply chain in perspective conditions of a Single transport space.”

The faculty has a Centre of Sustainable Development.

Students of the faculty are actively involved in the scientific – research work. Faculty regularly holds various interesting Olympiads in Economics for students of schools and colleges. The faculty is the organizer of the XI regional Olympiad in economics “Student initiatives in the XXI century with the participation of teams from Semey, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Shymkent.

Students of the faculty lead a healthy lifestyle, regularly winning national and international tournaments and championships in boxing, judo, wrestling, running sports, athletics and other sports, take an active part in the annual students’ Sports Day in table tennis, swimming, football, basketball, volleyball and chess. Students have time to study and be members of various youth organizations, Debate Club, CCR (Club of cheerful and resourceful), and actively participate in various public cultural events held within the university and the city of Seme
